Modern Miracles in Medicine

I finished off the last of my medication today, and I think I am finally recovered from my bout with the flu. Much to my mother's chagrin, it's the first time I remember ever finishing a prescription. Although it took me six days instead of five because I forgot to take it a couple of times. Sorry mom.
It's interesting to note that my doctor's visit and medicine combined cost a total of $35-$40 USD, before my insurance claim. I can't help but wonder what the equivalent would cost in the states. In fact I would venture to say any of my fully paid medical visits have cost significantly less than the co-pay cost of any doctor visit in the sates. I won't turn this into a complete criticism of the American medical policy because my statistical knowledge is rather incomplete, but I am certain the same treatment and care would have been much, much more.
